A neighbour of the deceased couple in Ogooluwa community, Akiode Ibogun, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, has recounted how the church shepherd, Bidemi Odukoya, allegedly killed his wife before later taking his own life.
According to The Punch, the incident reportedly occurred around 2am on Monday, August 31, during an alleged domestic dispute.
The neighbour, Mrs Oluwatoyin Oseni, said the couple had a history of domestic disagreements and that she had previously helped care for the woman after one of their fights.
She said they found the woman dead on the floor with severe injuries and later learnt that Odukoya had allegedly used a machete and wooden stool during the attack.
Oseni added that Odukoya was holding a cutlass when she confronted him about killing his wife. According to her, he calmly indicated that he was also as good as gone, making the neighbours afraid to approach him.
She said Odukoya subsequently went into the house, while the neighbours were unaware that he had fled the community.
Oseni later learnt that he had reportedly gone to Ifo along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, where he allegedly jumped in front of a moving truck and died.
She lamented that no one expected such a devastating incident to occur in the community, noting that similar cases were usually heard on the radio or seen on television.
“I have particularly been weeping since this incident occurred because I have always told Mummy Daniel to try and be patient and give peace a chance because I am always troubled by the couple’s persistent fight.
“But she would always tell me that she can’t leave her children behind, particularly her last born, who is seven years old. But sadly, everything has ended this terrible and painful way," she said.
